William Walker Atkinson, a lawyer turned influential figure in New Thought metaphysics and the occult, also promoted Hinduism and yoga under the name Swami Ramacharaka. Born in 1862 in Baltimore, he faced challenges in his legal career after being admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1894. Struggling with job-related pressures and unable to find relief through conventional medicine, Atkinson's journey toward healing led him to the mind cure movement, which ultimately restored his health and shaped his philosophical outlook.
