Focusing on industrial management reform in Eastern Europe during the 1960s, this comparative study analyzes the divergent paths taken by the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, and Yugoslavia, contrasted with Romania's lack of reform. The author draws on extensive interviews with middle and upper managers, as well as officials from various sectors, conducted over eleven months. This rich data set leads to fresh insights into enterprise coordination methods in the early 1970s and enhances understanding of management practices within the socialist context.
