Governments worldwide prioritize ensuring food security, which encompasses physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) plays a crucial role in combating hunger and malnutrition, having established a comprehensive definition of food security at the 1996 World Food Summit. This definition highlights the complexity of food security, emphasizing the need for quality food availability, access to nutritional resources, and the stability required to withstand external shocks, including the necessity for clean water and sanitation.
