Low German Varieties. Its Use and its Importance

Focusing on the contemporary relevance of Low German, this seminar paper presents findings from a survey conducted among various age groups regarding their understanding and use of the language. It explores participants' perceptions of Low German's significance related to their heritage and social interactions. The results indicate a decline in the language's importance across generations, suggesting a potential extinction in the near future. The study highlights the linguistic and cultural implications of this trend within the broader context of German language varieties.
