The Church and the State in France, 1789-1870

Focusing on the Roman Catholic Church's reactions to significant political upheavals in France from 1789 to 1848, this study examines how the Church perceived and responded to revolutions, particularly the democratic revolution of 1848. It explores the influence of religion on political behavior and the politicization of faith during turbulent times. Utilizing social and cultural historical methodologies, the author analyzes archival sources to reveal the interactions between Church and State, highlighting diverse perceptions and the impact of powerful decisions on various communities.
