Set against the backdrop of post-communist Hungary, the narrative explores themes of corruption and neo-fascism through the eyes of British journalist Charlie Barrow. He uncovers a sinister plot by Colonel Mihaly Kozma to reinstate totalitarianism and revive the Arrow Cross, with the backing of influential allies and the mafia. Barrow partners with police officers Captain Peter Kovacs and Sergeant Sandor Ubul, and encounters Coro, a young Roma victim of Kozma's brutality. Their quest for justice leads to both revelations and heartache, prompting Charlie to question the cost of his pursuit.
