Set a millennium in the future, major cities have become floating rafts navigating the oceans. Sal, a young navigator from Sydney, dreams of becoming a mermaid and seeks a genetic modification from the renowned scientist Jezzy in Shanghai. After a tumultuous series of events, including her arrest and subsequent modification, Sal faces challenges as she navigates love, motherhood, and survival amidst a violent storm and pirate threats. The story explores themes of identity, freedom, and resilience as the community strives to rebuild and return to the sea.
