Investigation of the Al-Ge-Ni phase diagram

The study focuses on the use of nickel aluminides in nickel-base superalloys, particularly for high-temperature applications in aircraft engines and turbines. Given the complexity and cost of manufacturing these materials, the research emphasizes the need for effective joining techniques, specifically transient liquid phase bonding (TLP). By selecting germanium as a melting point depressant, the work investigates the Al-Ge-Ni ternary phase diagram to optimize filler composition and understand interface reactions during the brazing process.
