The rapid growth of the town and surrounding hamlets is highlighted, along with a unique feature from the 1930s where an alfalfa farmer planted Scotch pines to create a visible sign of the town's name, which gained recognition in Ripley's Believe It or Not! Today, Canisteo is a tranquil bedroom community known for its agriculture and outdoor activities, attracting visitors for hunting and local produce.
