Robert Service's journey from a Scottish bank clerk to a celebrated poet is marked by his insatiable desire for adventure. After a brief stint at the University of Glasgow, he moved to Canada, where he embraced the frontier spirit while working for the Canadian Bank of Commerce. His breakthrough came with "Songs of a Sourdough" in 1906, leading to a prolific writing career that included works like "The Trail of Ninety-Eight," which was adapted into a film. Service's life reflects the contrast between the romanticism of frontier life and the comforts he enjoyed, culminating in his death in a French villa in 1958.
