The story follows twelve-year-old twins Gail and Dale Pawson, who are notorious troublemakers in their rundown neighborhood of Ashland. Struggling with a difficult home life, they engage in reckless behaviors like vandalism, theft, and poor academic performance. Instead of facing the harsh consequences of boarding school, they find themselves at the Salvation Army for counseling, where their mischief leads to unexpected lessons and growth.
