Set in 1360s Scotland, the narrative follows Lizbeth Martin, a recently widowed woman left destitute after her husband's mismanagement. Alone and determined not to be a pawn in men's games, she faces a harsh reality. Meanwhile, Rolph Kinduin, born illegitimately yet strong and principled, rises to lead his clan after his half-brother's death.
