Richmal Crompton, renowned for her beloved children's series featuring William Brown published from 1922 to 1970, was a talented author who transitioned from teaching to writing in 1923. A scholarship recipient from Lancashire, she graduated as a schoolteacher in 1914. In addition to her iconic William stories, she authored forty-one novels for adults, including notable titles like Family Roundabout and Portrait of a Family, as well as nine short story collections, showcasing her versatility and depth as a writer.
