Set in a Victorian house divided into three flats, the play explores the lives of its diverse inhabitants. Barbara, a meticulous executive, occupies the ground floor, while her basement-dwelling handyman, Gilbert, paints a nude study of her. Tensions rise when Barbara's schoolfriend Nikki and her fiancé move into the upstairs flat, despite Barbara's aversion to him. The narrative unfolds as Nikki, often a victim of circumstance, faces new challenges when Barbara unexpectedly falls into a violent passion, intertwining their fates.
