Mik, a hearing-impaired teenager from the West Bronx, navigates high school life by reading lips and selling homework answers while finding solace in her art. Her solitary existence changes when she befriends Fatima, a teenage refugee selling newspapers, and Jimmi, a homeless veteran ostracized by society. Through these new connections, Mik's tough exterior begins to soften, leading her on a journey of self-discovery and the importance of community.
