Mother West Wind's Children

Known as the Bedtime Story-Man, Thornton Waldo Burgess dedicated his life to celebrating nature and wildlife through literature. Over a prolific 50-year career, he authored more than 170 books and contributed 15,000 stories to his newspaper column, Bedtime Stories. Burgess's deep appreciation for the environment stemmed from his humble upbringing in Sandwich, where he was raised by his mother after the early death of his father. His legacy as a conservationist and children's storyteller continues to inspire a love for nature in young readers.
