Set in 1289, the story follows Venetian merchant Vincente Montefoschi as he embarks on a dangerous caravan journey from Lesser Armenia to Peking, driven by the hope of converting Kubilai Khan to Christianity. Accompanied by a talented illuminator and backed by Armenian King Hethum II, the expedition faces extreme climates and challenging terrains. Tensions rise among the travelers, fueled by their individual ambitions for glory, love, and power. As they traverse mystical lands, they must confront their inner demons or risk being overwhelmed by their fears.
