Set against the backdrop of World War Two, the story follows Dante Rinaldi, the son of Italian immigrants in Scotland. During a summer spent with his grandfather in rural Italy, he forms a deep connection to his family's homeland. As he matures, Dante becomes involved with a group of mountain partisans, actively resisting fascist forces. The narrative explores themes of identity, heritage, and the struggle for freedom in a tumultuous historical context.
