Set against the backdrop of the civil rights movement in the 1960s, a group of medical professionals formed the Medical Committee for Human Rights to support activists in Mississippi. Leaving behind their comfortable practices, they provided medical care during significant events like Freedom Summer and the March on Selma. Their experiences led them to confront broader social issues, including poverty and healthcare inequality, ultimately advocating for systemic reform in the U.S. healthcare system and pioneering community health initiatives for underserved populations.
