Evan Blake, an MIT engineering professor and jazz musician, uncovers an enigmatic object in London resembling a vinyl record that plays endless jazz. Previously owned by cellist Nigel Thompson, who experienced classical music from it, Evan discovers advanced nanotechnology hinting at its extraterrestrial origin. Believing it conveys a message, he teams up with biochemistry professor Jeanette Menard in Paris to investigate further, blending themes of music, science, and the possibility of alien communication.
