Exploring late medieval accounts of perception and cognition, this study reinterprets Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde through the lens of recent scholarship on representation and causality. It highlights the influence of scholastic psychological theory on cultural forms, particularly in understanding the characters of Troilus, Pandarus, and the controversial Criseyde. By situating these figures within their historical context, the work provides a deeper and more nuanced analysis of the poem, moving beyond modern psychological interpretations of intentionality.
