Having distanced herself from her ethnic community, she prepares to welcome her daughter's new sibling, Krijanis. Milda's marriage to Peteris Vanags, a one-armed veteran, marks a decade of happiness in Washington, D.C., where they reconnect and heal from past traumas. However, the fall of the Soviet Union brings unforeseen challenges, shaking the foundations of their exile life.
