The book explores the extensive history of Amerindian slavery from the 1490s in the Caribbean through the 18th and 19th centuries across the Americas. It highlights the participation of various European colonizers in enslaving native populations and the persistence of this practice even after the decline of colonial power. While the focus has often been on African slavery, recent scholarship has begun to illuminate the significant yet overlooked impact of Indian slavery, which persisted in places like Brazil and the United States into the 19th century.
