Set against a backdrop of rebellion and conflict in eastern Kardakan, Rakvir Stagarnik embarks on a critical mission to maintain peace after the brutal suppression of dissent. As tensions rise following the murder of a ruler advocating for peace, Rakvir confronts the Thlaxacan army and persuades temple-priests to quell violence amid superstitions surrounding a solar eclipse. Despite his efforts leading to a fragile peace, tragedy strikes in the final battle, leaving Rakvir and his family to rebuild their lives in a weary world.
