Focusing on the history and culture of the Islamic Orient, this series serves as a supplement to the journal Der Islam, published by the Asia-Africa Institute at the University of Hamburg. Established in 1908, the institute was a pioneering center for interdisciplinary research beyond philology in German Islamic studies. The series, which began its new volume in 2004, continues to publish significant works that explore the Islamic world's history and culture from its inception to the present, maintaining high academic standards.
