Historii včel jsem četl v období, kdy mě silně přitahovalo vše kolem včel – jejich chování, význam, poezie úlu. O to víc mě mrzelo, že tahle kniha mě spíš míjela. Místo hlubšího ponoru do fascinujícího světa včel jsem dostal uplakaný, místy až lacině apokalyptický příběh, který se mě snažil zneklidnit za každou cenu. Vedle knih jako Lumír včelaří nebo Zimní včely působí Historie včel trochu jako uměle vystavěné varování bez skutečné hloubky. Paradoxně mi ale otevřela oči k jiným opylovačům – třeba k vosám, které jsem od té doby přestal vnímat jen jako otravné vetřelce. Takže nakonec: i tahle kniha měla svůj přínos, jen trochu jiný, než sama zamýšlela.
