Abbeville is a town of four thousand—minus one. When an early snowstorm finally relinquishes what it is hiding, the place will never be the same again. The blizzard’s secret not only rewrites the community’s history, but determines its future as well—and all the residents are affected. Zach Popek drives in to visit his favorite clergyman, only to find him in the hospital, and stumbles into a series of mysteries. His inquiries of local law enforcement are not only rebuffed, but certain officers start harassing him. An unlikely mystery is the bizarre disappearance of an African priest, whom his friend had been sent to replace. Add to this the missing man’s sister, a real sister who believes wearing clothing is optional, plus the appearance of the young widow of Zach’s best friend. Zach learns that his own life is threatened, when the blizzard-covered Cottonwood Pits, a beautiful area of small lakes near the town, turns sinister.
