Thea Kronborg, an aspiring musician from a small Colorado town, grapples with her identity and the challenges of fitting in due to her unique ambitions. Supported by her mother and aunt, she takes over her piano instructor's business at fifteen and is pressured by her father to play the church organ. After a tragedy grants her the means to study music in Chicago, Thea discovers her talent for singing and aspires to become an opera singer. Her journey is marked by the tension between pursuing her dreams and maintaining her values and independence.
