Set against the backdrop of Cold War Berlin, the story follows Joe Wilderness, a former East End-Londoner and spy, who finds himself in a West Berlin jail after a shooting incident. His former boss, Lieutenant Burne-Jones, offers to secure his release on the condition that he returns to British Intelligence. Wilderness's past experiences in Berlin's underworld during the post-World War II black market become crucial as tensions rise, making the city a pivotal battleground in the geopolitical conflict.
