After a series of personal upheavals, including his wife's departure and his father's death, sixty-three-year-old Louis McDonald Jr. finds himself in a rut, spending his days indulging in reality TV and beer. His life takes a turn when he adopts Layla, an overweight mixed-breed dog, from a house offering free pets. This new companionship sparks a change in Louis, leading him to explore local dog parks and embrace a more active lifestyle, ultimately helping him reconnect with himself and the world around him.
