"The Alte Nationalgalerie contains an outstanding period collection of nineteenth-century painting and sculpture. In addition to the famous Romantic paintings by such artists as Caspar David Friedrich and Karl Friedrich Schinkel and pictures by the Barbizon School, the French Impressionists, Adolph Menzel, Lovis Corinth and Max Liebermann, there are also numerous important works by sculptors from Germany and beyond, from Johann Gottfried Schadow to Auguste Rodin. The building on the Museum Island in Berlin was completed in 1876 after plans by August Stüler.
