The spontaneous formation of organized structures from chaos is a captivating phenomenon that challenges scientists. This process is evident in the growth of plants and animals, leading to inquiries about evolution and the origin of life. To understand these complex biological phenomena, researchers explore self-organization in simpler, non-living systems. Recent discoveries highlight numerous physical and chemical systems where organized spatial, temporal, or spatio-temporal structures emerge from chaotic states. Unlike man-made machines, which are designed for specific functions, these structures develop spontaneously through self-organization. Many scientists were surprised to find that various systems exhibit similar behaviors when transitioning from disorder to order, suggesting they adhere to fundamental principles. This book aims to elucidate these basic principles and underlying concepts while providing the mathematical tools necessary for analysis.
