Nikolei is a Polish/Ukrainian Jew who finds himself fighting among the Germans then turning against them in 1945 to save a battle-scarred Prague. Nikolei manages to hide himself among the Germans with a woman working as a prostitute. "Almost everything in the narrative is true," says British-born author and film producer Stephen Weeks, although "during those confusing times toward the end of World War II, nothing and no one is quite as they seem."
