The French inventor Thomas Roch develops an explosive of previously unattainable explosive power, the effect of which breaks him up psychologically and he is then sent to a mental hospital. This is regarded as a showcase institution and is repeatedly visited by well-known people, including Count d'Artigas, who wants to get his hands on the super explosive himself.
