Paperback edition of a book first published in 1992. Examines the question of existence and the origin and evolution of the cosmos, concluding that the universe is not the product of a purposeless accident, and the human mind is not a meaningless quirk of nature but a fundamental facet of reality. Winner of the 1992 Eureka Science Book Prize. The author is a well-known physicist and has written many other books including ' God and the New Physics', and is currently Professor of Mathematical Physics at the University of Adelaide.
