The logic of economic reform in China

This book offers a comprehensive historical overview of Chinese economic reform over the past 30 years, tracing its evolution from inception to the current critical phase. It encompasses research on the reform process and detailed descriptions of key reform areas since the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. The author identifies six key logics of Chinese economic reform. Firstly, reform is cyclical, alternating between rapid progress and stagnation, prompting a reevaluation of conventional views. Secondly, it is systematic, requiring supporting reforms in various fields for success. Thirdly, the interplay between reform, development, and stability must be carefully managed, diverging from Western theories that prioritize efficiency. Fourthly, the success of Chinese reform is not coincidental; it is rooted in theoretical logic and transcends the debate between progressive and radical approaches. Fifthly, the Top-level Design should integrate with the practical approach of "crossing the river by moving from stone to stone," ensuring that theoretical foundations align with reform practices. Finally, understanding ongoing reforms in China necessitates consideration of global competition and reform dynamics.
