“I was a bourgeois painter, then a progressive painter, and then no longer a painter, but just a worker in the pictures.” Paul Yederbeck (1965–2001). In the context of “Potsdam 2011 – City of Film,” Frank Geßner, under the pseudonym “Paul Yederbeck,” created the polystylistic “Expanded Animation Cinema” ALIAS YEDERBECK. This large-scale cinematographic installation merges visual arts with media art, film, video, animation, and sound in a metafictional performance. The “auto(author)constructs” of the painting cycle TESTE SANS FIN and related multimedia archive material serve as the foundation for twelve nonlinear panoramic film sequences: Entertainer, Flaneur, Spectator, Actor, Dissolution, Projection, Anima Techne, Transcendental Animation, Happy End, Doppelganger, Reminder, The End (12-channel video) and the artist video QU'EST-CE QUE MONSIEUR TESTE? (1-channel video). Geßner received support from friends, alumni, and colleagues at HFF “Konrad Wolf” Potsdam-Babelsberg. RE: VOIR Paris presents ALIAS YEDERBECK as a virtual panorama installation with bonus materials for the first time on DVD. This edition includes an extensive booklet featuring essays by animation aesthetician Suzanne Buchan, art historian Ursula Frohne, philosopher Christian Katti, and media theorist Yvonne Spielmann.
