This volume explores the impact of global change on the social, physical, and economic structures of cities and their inhabitants. In recent decades, significant investments have been made in urban regeneration, housing renovation, and the revitalization of neighborhoods, leading to profound changes. The first objective is to highlight key issues related to these transformations, discussed at an international symposium organized by the International Association for People-Environment Studies and CSBE Networks in Istanbul. The second objective is to demonstrate how concepts and methods from people-environment studies can effectively address complex questions about revitalizing the built environment, from specific buildings to entire neighborhoods. Key themes include heritage and cultural identity, the institutional, economic, and political contexts of revitalization, and strategies for overcoming challenges.
