The role of forest management and conservation in a complex international setting

Viac o knihe

Forests and trees outside of forests are crucial to the UN conventions on Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Combating Desertification. Implementing these conventions at various levels is complex due to diverse sectoral and national interests, unresolved scientific issues, and varying biophysical, social, cultural, and political conditions worldwide. The 2nd International Workshop on “Forests in Climate Change Research and Policy: The Role of Forest Management and Conservation in a Complex International Setting” took place from December 1-7, 2011, in Pietermaritzburg and Durban, focusing on the significance of forests in climate change and their role in policy processes like REDD. Contributions were organized into topics such as Forest Management under Climate Change, Climate Change Policy Issues, Monitoring Reporting and Verification, Forest Fires, and REDD potential, featuring examples and case studies. The workshop included technical papers addressing challenges in assessing forest resources alongside discussions on climate-related policy processes. Additionally, special issues on forest fires and international case studies on REDD's potential in various countries were presented.
