Stefan Panhans’ videos and photographs offer incisive reflections on contemporary culture through a form of artistic research he describes as 'mental archaeology' of media. His works explore the subject's struggles with the demands, challenges, and media obsessions prevalent in an era marked by virtuality and control. In the video 'Sorry', viewers are taken on a disquieting train journey featuring individuals from diverse professions—exhausted VIP doubles, soldiers, and German Special Forces commandos—traveling to an undisclosed destination. The silence among them is palpable; they appear fatigued, possibly engaged in unfamiliar rituals that feel recognizable yet remain ultimately incomprehensible. Accompanying the exhibition 'When is the moon finally going to rise?' at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Siegen, the Book on the Film includes numerous video stills and photographs taken by Panhans during the video’s production. These images capture the actors in various 'stages of transformation' as they prepare for their roles, further enriching the exploration of identity and media in his work.
