The Asia Information Retrieval Societies Conference (AIRS) 2010 marked the sixth iteration of this series, designed to unite international researchers and developers to share innovative ideas and findings in information retrieval. The conference covered various aspects of information retrieval across text, audio, image, video, and multimedia data. It evolved from the Information Retrieval with Asian Languages (IRAL) workshop series, initiated in 1996, and has become a prominent platform for information retrieval research, receiving backing from organizations such as the ACM Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval (SIGIR) and the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ). This year, submissions surged, with 120 papers received from academics and practitioners across Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. The high caliber of submissions posed challenges for the program committee in selecting papers for presentation. Ultimately, 26 submissions (21%) were accepted as full oral presentations, while 31 (25%) were chosen as short posters. The conference's success relied on the contributions of authors, the diligent program committee members who evaluated submissions, and the registered delegates. Their collective support has been vital for this Asian-centric venue for information retrieval research and development.
