Ludwig II

King Ludwig II of Bavaria. While his fairy-tale like castles Neuschwanstein, Herrenchiemsee and Linderhof count among Bavaria's most outstanding tourist attractions, and his achievements with regard to the music of Richard Wagner remain uncontested, his life presents numerous enigmas for posterity: deeply in dept and incapacitated, he was to meet his end at Lake Starnberg, in 1886, under circumstances yet to be fully explained.
