The convergence of telecommunication networks is creating opportunities for a dynamic ecosystem of IP-based next-generation technologies and applications. Key principles like Virtualization, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), and Web 2.0, alongside the adoption of standards such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), are facilitating this convergence. Operators face the challenge of providing effective interfaces for a complex and diverse wireless access landscape, which includes cellular, metropolitan area, and short-range systems. Future telecom providers will need to support high-bandwidth triple-play services—voice, video, and data—over a single, interactive network. Virtualization abstracts computing resources, making them transparent to systems and users. In this environment, distributed resources appear as a single logical entity, allowing enterprises to manage resources cost-effectively. However, current virtualization efforts often focus on homogeneous environments. End-to-end (E2E) virtualization aims to extend these benefits across diverse, large-scale environments. To support emerging service paradigms, network intelligence must enhance multimedia session management, multi-protocol coordination, and security. While multimedia content delivery has been well-studied, the challenge now lies in dynamically creating content distribution infrastructures within telco-managed networks.
