Sheet „Aboisso North“ covers an area of mostly NE-trending Paleoproterozoic supracrustal and intrusive rocks in the western part of the eastern, ca. 2190 to 2150 Ma old subprovince of the Birmian/Eburnean Baoulé-Mossi domain of the West African craton. The area covered by the map is made up of three major lithological units: - a predominantly greenschist-facies-metamorphic volcano-plutonic belt in its center which itself is subdivided into three individual branches or assemblages which are separated by major, regionally important shear- and/or thrust zones (Sefwi belt), - a greenschist-facies-metamorphic sedimentary basin in its southeastern part (Kumasi basin), - an upper-greenschist-to-amphibolite-grade metamorphic sedimentary basin, which is intruded by late-kinematic granitoid intrusions, in the northwestern part.
