'Border poetics' offers strategies for analyzing both failed and successful crossings of territorial or symbolic borders. This collection of essays examines the relationship between these crossings and the ongoing creation and renegotiation of borders through representation. It aims to identify key processes of border formation and permeability in contemporary societies, exploring the possibilities and limitations of these strategies through theoretical essays and close readings of bordering actions and experiences. The essays address significant political, national, cultural, and aesthetic frontiers in literature, film, and art, arguing for the deep connection between borders, mobility, memory, and narrative. They establish a specific vocabulary for discussing narratives of bordering while raising questions about identity, mediality, ethics, and gender as central to border experiences. This work engages readers in both social science and aesthetically-oriented border theory, encouraging them to rethink their disciplinary boundaries. By uniting contributions from various regional traditions in literary and cultural studies, it serves as a timely reminder of the global nature of border experiences.
