How did Orlando di Lasso, Ludwig van Beethoven, Modest Mussorgsky or György Ligeti live – and how did their major works come into being? The Encyclopedia of Composers for Young People wants to make important musicians accessible to children and young people interested in music (and their parents too) – from the Renaissance to the 21st century. The encyclopedia is both a work of reference and an entertaining storybook, presenting vivid portraits of 153 composers from A to Z: In the centre of each portrait is a graphic biography of the respective artist, mentioning his most important works and the composer's significance in relation to music history. Characteristic episodes from the musician's everyday life enable the reader to get to know the composers' personalities from different perspectives.
