Mountain walks in the High Tatra

Recent political changes have made access to the High Tatra mountains easier. This stunning region, straddling Slovakia and Poland, features the Carpathians' highest peaks, reaching 2655 meters (Gerlachovsky stit). Established as a national park in 1949, the area is protected by strict regulations. Stanislav Samuhel, a mountain guide from Tatranská Lomnica and an expert on this compact mountain range, presents 55 hiking tours suitable for both novice and experienced mountaineers. Each route is described in detail, ensuring easy navigation for all hikers. The guide includes a variety of tours, from simple walks at the foothills to challenging summit ascents requiring a "hands-on" approach. The thoroughly revised second edition introduces seven new tours that explore the Polish side of the High Tatra, particularly around the historic Zakopane resort. Each tour is accompanied by illustrated Freytag & Berndt hiking maps at a scale of 1:50,000, providing detailed routes and a concise portrayal for all suggested hikes.
