Viac o knihe

Since Christian Pescheck's study of Germanic finds from the Roman Iron Age in Main Franconia in 1978, numerous new metal discoveries have emerged. These findings predominantly reflect Elbe-Germanic and, in the 3rd/4th century, Alamannic influences, while the Rhine-Weser-Germanic elements suggested by 2nd/3rd-century pottery are notably absent. Around the turn of the era and from the late 1st to the 1st half of the 3rd century, Roman influence is evident, paralleling artifacts found in Upper Germanic limes fortresses. Following this period, Roman finds increasingly diminished until the late 4th or early 5th century. A third category of artifacts, identified as East Germanic or steppe nomadic, likely of Burgundian origin, appears from the late 3rd to the 1st half of the 5th century, alongside early 3rd-century Sarmatian finds. These artifacts are distributed unevenly across sites, primarily within the Main triangle and Grabfeld region. Distribution patterns suggest a trade route from southwestern Germany to the Middle-Elbe-Saale area. The Roman artifacts are best understood as imitations of Roman lifestyles, including the adoption of specific religious cults.
