Computational aerodynamics and fluid dynamics

An Introduction

Viac o knihe

The field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has significantly evolved since the author was first introduced to electronic computation in the mid-sixties. The advancement of numerical methods has kept pace with computer technology and software development. Today, simulations are a vital tool in engineering, enabling a deeper understanding of complex systems and enhancing design efficiency. Engineers must adeptly utilize large simulation codes available in the industry, tailoring them to specific problems by implementing or modifying boundary conditions. This book aims to provide readers with a foundational understanding of how numerical schemes achieve accurate and stable simulations of physical phenomena. The model problems discussed are predominantly linear, illustrating wave propagation, heat diffusion, and membrane equilibrium under distributed loads. These problems are governed by partial differential equations (PDEs) that can be categorized as hyperbolic, parabolic, or elliptic, reflecting various physical situations such as heat conduction and viscous fluid flow. Additionally, the book addresses nonlinear model problems, including the transonic small disturbance equation and gas dynamics equations, offering a comprehensive overview of the numerical treatment required for diverse applications.
