Clarita von Trott zu Solz, widow of the executed resistance fighter Adam von Trott zu Solz, compiled and commented on a wealth of her husband's letters, notebooks, essays, and manuscripts, along with testimonies from his extensive international circle of friends, in 1958. This compilation has been essential for understanding Adam von Trott's role in the Kreisauer Kreis and the resistance's foreign policy, influencing numerous publications over the past fifty years. First published in 1994, the work aims to illuminate the extraordinary thoughts and actions of this remarkable contemporary. Now, a century after Adam von Trott's birth and in the author's ninety-second year, the book is reissued with an appendix of additional political writings and personal letters that further highlight his insights and emotions. While Trott's friend Stauffenberg is often remembered as a prominent figure of the German resistance, Trott, who recognized Germany's peril as early as 1933, also acted decisively within his limited diplomatic means. He risked his life during foreign travels, committing acts of 'high treason' against the regime. Both men, despite their apparent failures, contributed indelibly to Germany's future viability.
